Heaven and Earth Joined Entity

 Aaoodhoo billahe minashaitan rajeem 

 Al-Anbiya 21:30

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ 

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?

I am amazed by this ayah. I never noticed that heavens and earth were a joined entity and Allah separated them and that's a blessing for us as well. And i never knew night was first and then day came Subhan Allah. And with separation of earth and heavens came rain from sky and vegetation from earth. It strengthens my belief that Allah doesn't do anything without purpose and whatever He does is for our benefit. May Allah make us appreciate His wisdom and May Allah make us appreciate the wisdom in His ayahs and May Allah make us grateful. Ameen.

 Sufyan Ath-Thawri narrated from his father from Ikrimah that Ibn Abbas was asked; 

"Did the night come first or the day?"

He said,

"Do you think that when the heavens and the earth were joined together, there was anything between them except darkness! Thus you may know that the night came before the day.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn Umar said that;

a man came to him and questioned him about when the heavens and earth were joined together then they were parted.

He said, "Go to that old man (Sheikh) and ask him, then come and tell me what he says to you."

So he went to Ibn Abbas and asked him. Ibn Abbas said:

"Yes, the heavens were joined together and it did not rain, and the earth was joined together and nothing grew. When living beings were created to populate the earth, rain came forth from the heavens and vegetation came forth from the earth."

The man went back to Ibn Umar and told him what had been said.

Ibn Umar said, "Now I know that Ibn Abbas has been given knowledge of the Qur'an. He has spoken the truth, and this is how it was."

Ibn Umar said:"I did not like the daring attitude of Ibn Abbas in his Tafsir of the Qur'an, but now I know that he has been given knowledge of the Qur'an.

Day night and sleep

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

Assalamoalaekum السلام عليكم

I am sharing an ayah below and my reflection on it which inspired me today. If it is of any benefit then all praise to Allah. All the discrepancies are due to me and satan. Oh Allah help us use the day and night and sleep in correct way. Ameen. Oh Allah help us learn from the wisdom of Your ayahs. Ameen.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا وَالنَّوْمَ سُبَاتًا وَجَعَلَ النَّهَارَ نُشُورًا
And He it is Who made the night a covering for you, and the sleep a rest, and He made the day to rise up again.
(Surah Al-Furqan,25:47)

وَهُوَ And He  -  ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who  -  جَعَلَ made  -  لَكُمُ for you  -  ٱلَّيْلَ the night  -  لِبَاسًا (as) a covering  -  وَٱلنَّوْمَ and the sleep  -  سُبَاتًا a rest  -  وَجَعَلَ and made  -  ٱلنَّهَارَ the day  -  نُشُورًا a resurrection.  -

Allah made night as a covering and sleep as rest and day to rise up again. What does a night cover? For me it covers every bad that happened during the day. For example if I am having a bad day today. I won't feel it as bad tomorrow inshaAllah because night covers every bad. Night is like a clothing. Like in a clothing we cannot see what is behind clothing. During the night I cannot see what happened during the day.

A covering is supposed to cover everything and yet sometimes I don't find it covering everything. Why? Because me or somebody not using the night to sleep. Allah mentioned sleep as rest after mentioning night as covering. That means I need to rest during night. But my nafs or satan tricks us to do work during night.

And yet no matter how hard i try i cannot stay awake for two continous nights.  I tried it in my last umrah trip. SubhanAllah even if night is spent in doing good deeds like tawaf or Salah or reciting Quran, still i needed sometime to sleep during the night, otherwise my day will be ruined. That's why tahajjud is the prayer made after waking up from sleep. If I don't use the night to sleep then either I miss  I miss Quran of Fajr or I sleep after Fajr which is a time to rise according to Allah. And if I sleep after Fajr, I get lazy and that's what we find in Prophet Muhammad's صلى الله عليه وسلم Saying.

Allah made the day to rise up and if i dont rise up when day begins then I miss the time of most Barakah which is early morning. And I also miss the beauty of nature because Allah makes the day for everybody to rise up and not just humans. And every morning when I hear the birds chirp in the morning, I notice even if all humans sleep especially on the weekends, birds still rise up as soon as the day begins. سبحان الله

 I wonder why is the sleep cycle of human is affected. And this reminded me of a day when light went off just before sunset and I began the night in dark. That was a different night SubhanAllah. I got the chance to wind up the kitchen early because running the kitchen is difficult without light. I got the chance to sit with family in quite alhamdolillah because everybody is free due to no electricity. And alhamdolillah  everybody went to bed early. So with advancement of technology we got the light even after sunset and we are distracted to use that light and keep ourselves awake during the night after isha and that affects our productivity during the day. And we dont even realize. Actually that affects our complete sleep cycle and many people end up having insomnia and there are many windows treatments available today in the market to do black out in the room during the day and are sold quite expensive. Why? Because  they knew that human needed complete black out to sleep. And who could know this better than Allah. That's why Allah سبحان و تعالى does a complete black out during the night so that we rest. Alhamdolillah الحمد لله

Day and nights and rest are great blessings of Allah because if there is no night and all time it's day, it's going to be very difficult for human being to sleep with the sunlight. People living in countries which have very short nights can tell the difficulties of having short nights or no nights. And if it's all time nights and no day then it will be very difficult to work during the dark. We experience this in winter days when sunset happens early and we feel dull after dark. Those who work during the night shifts can tell how hard it becomes to work during the night.

Also the night covers all our work or worries we have during the day and gives us the chance to recharge ourselves for next day. Alhamdolillah. Alhamdolillah الحمد لله think no words of appreciation and thanks  can express the gratitude we should have to Allah to make night as a covering, sleep as rest and day to rise up.


This ayah also reminds me of death and rising up again and my jobs while I am awake.

Oh Allah help us use the night to rest and day to work. Oh Allah help us do something during the day that earns us Your pleasure. Ameen.
