Satan's footsteps, indecency and evil

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

I am sharing an ayah and my reflection on it and how it inspired me today. If it is beneficial then all praise to Allah. Oh Allah guide us, forgive us and have mercy on us. Ameen.

Surah An-Noor, Verse 21:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَمَن يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًا وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يُزَكِّي مَن يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

O you who believe! do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan, and whoever follows the footsteps of the Shaitan, then surely he bids the doing of indecency and evil; and were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have ever been pure, but Allah purifies whom He pleases; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

I just wonder everyday why is there so much indecency and evil acts right now in the world. And this ayah gives the answer. We associate indecency and evil acts only with west. But actually it is there in most conservative eastern societies as well. It is there in some form in every human being unless he/she seeks refuge from satan.

So I need to remind myself that if I am involved in any kind of immorality or evil, then it is following the footsteps of Satan. And I need to seek refuge from satan. But problem arises when i do something immoral and evil and still think i didn't do anything wrong and consider myself pure. This ayah reminds that none of us could have been pure if it was not Allah's grace and mercy on us. Allah o Akbar. So it is a great reminder that I seek Allah grace and mercy and I shouldn't consider myself pure. Because only Allah Knows who is pure.

Oh Allah help us follow the footsteps of those who You are pleased with. Ameen. Oh Allah please purify us and have mercy on us. Ameen.
